Let me tell you a secret…when I was a little boy I was infatuated with fire.
I would play with zippo lighters and I even started a small fire on school property...but shhhhh!
Luckily, that passion steered me in the right direction because when I grew up, I became a wildland firefighter.
I left fire, trading my fire boots for combat boots and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1990.
In my time in the Marines, I was station in the Philippines and met the mother of my two wonderful daughters. In 1994, I was discharged…I loved the Marine Corps, but I knew my calling was to be a firefighter!
Fast-forward some years and many fires later, I traded being a Hot Shot Squad leader and became a Type 3 Engine Captain with Olympic National Park. At this point I had over 20+ years as a wildland firefighter and I realized firefighters on the line could be saving time. I invented two nozzles designed to help firefighters suppress fires more efficiently, refilling bladder bags in 30 seconds.
I retired from ONP, but I am still drawn to the flame; I fight fire as an independent contract hazard tree faller on the fireline.
I do what I do because I am passionate about fire as I have been for the last 34 years. I want to help wildland firefighters be more efficient on the line because I know what its like, to be hustling a bladder bag up and down the fireline.
Beyond that, I want to leave a legacy for my two daughters in De Luna’s Enterprises.
So, tell me friend. Have you ever had a dream?
